Born in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga and Christened California Ntemane in 1993. California
is a singer, songwriter, dancer, actress, an urban soulful, afro pop and house
artist with an edgy style and bold artistry. Her style of music can be called a
musical interpretation of her state of mind, what she sees around her, what she
feels and the challenges she faced.
She was adopted by a Swati relative family in Ngodini
KaBokweni in Mpumalanga after the passing of her mother. In the late years of
her high schooling, her parents passed on as well and so she moved to the city
of Pretoria, Gauteng with the hope to complete her high school studies. She
took up freelance basking (podium dance), dancing for artists (on stage and in music
videos), Choreography, Singing at
events, Modeling, event coordinating and promotions for a living.
California, after scaling through all hurdles, bagged a
Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Sciences from University of South
Africa. Because of her love for the Art of Dancing she is studying more to become
a certified dance teacher with Jazz.ED dance
institution. With her experience in her field she decided to set up a
promotions and dancers management company, Name, to assist young female dancers
that are up and coming. without support structures which is under
establishment.
In the course of her career; California has worked with
Mckenzie and featured on Sir Java’s
album. She has danced for numerous artists such as Tina and AFCON under ProTina, Amstel under African Extravaganza,
danced for MTN under Blagora
Entertainment. She played a major role by offering assistance in DoAGRIC Campaign with an international
and Cameroonian artist, Wax Dey. She then landed a recording opportunity at Aloma Entertainment a Nigeria/South Africa Entertainment Company to pursue her passion.
She’s an ambitious young lady who wants people to relate to
her music on a personal level beyond the hype and be truly inspired, and that
is what drives her as an artist”.
